Poker is a game in which you compete against other players for a pot of money. The goal is to make the best hand possible by using your own cards and the community cards.<\/p>\n
The player who has the best hand after each betting round wins the pot, unless all but one player folds. If more than one player remains in the hand, a showdown occurs where all the hands are revealed.<\/p>\n
The game of poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The dealer shuffles and deals the cards to each player clockwise around the table.<\/p>\n
A button (sometimes called a “buck” or “dealer” button) marks the dealer’s position. This button passes one spot clockwise after each hand.<\/p>\n
The ante is the minimum amount of money that you must bet to be eligible to play. This amount is usually set by the casino and is the same for all players.<\/p>\n
A player who is all-in is placing all of their chips or cash into the pot. This is a strong bet because it forces weaker hands out of the pot and raises the value of the pot.<\/p>\n
A variation of the ante, the big blind is a bet that is placed by the player to the left of the dealer. This bet is usually based on the size of the pot and is usually the minimum bet in the game.<\/p>\n
In some variations of the game, a player can \u201ccheck\u201d during a betting round if they do not want to bet any further.
